Nose Sculpting (Rhinoplasty) Palm Beach Gardens

Improving the balance and harmony between the nose and your other facial features can greatly enhance one’s facial appearance. The changes made are very small and subtle but when performed by a experienced Facial Plastic Surgeon who combines technical expertise with a keen artistic eye, the results can be life-transforming. Patients visit Dr. Mandal in Palm Beach for rhinoplasty or “nose job” for a variety of reasons. Some wish to improve the nose they were born with while others want to reverse the changes that occur with age or desire correction of a trauma injury to their nose. Many patients also visit Dr. Mandal for ethnic rhinoplasty, revision rhinoplasty and reconstructive surgery.

Rhinoplasty
Balancing Your Facial Features

Rhinoplasty, also known as nose sculpting or nose reshaping, is appropriate for most adults as well as teenagers once their facial development is complete. Dr. Mandal’s patients visit her for rhinoplasty near West Palm Beach and Jupiter for both cosmetic and functional reasons that include:

  • Straightening a crooked or broken nose
  • Decreasing the size of the nose
  • Narrowing the nostrils or the tip of the nose
  • Removing a hump from the bridge of the nose
  • Refining the overall shape of the nose
  • Improving breathing function
  • Restoring a youthful nose that has changed with age

More so than for any other cosmetic procedure, it is important to have realistic expectations about what rhinoplasty can do for you. Dr. Mandal’s goal is not to create the ideal or “perfect” nose but to balance the nose with your other facial features. While a nose with a strong masculine profile is well suited for a tall man, a softly sloping profile may work better for a petite female. Since each person is different, each nose is unique. Dr. Mandal always takes your personal preferences and unique facial characteristics into consideration when performing rhinoplasty.

Nose Sculpting

Rhinoplasty is a procedure that Dr. Mandal usually performs in 2 to 3 hours, depending on its complexity, while the patient is under general anesthesia. Dr. Mandal’s most common surgical approach consists of open structure rhinoplasty. This advanced technique enables more accurate and predictable improvements in the underlying nasal structures. During surgery, bone and cartilage just under the skin are trimmed and re-sculpted. The skin is then re-draped over the newly shaped tissues as the final step.

Form and Function

Since rhinoplasty is technically the most challenging facial cosmetic operation, it is important to find an experienced plastic surgeon who understands the complex relationship between the outer appearance and inner function of the nose. Unlike many other types of plastic surgeons, facial plastic surgeons who specialize in the face, nose and neck have extensive training and expertise in the intricate relationship between nasal form and function. For instance, a deviated septum may lead to a breathing problem after rhinoplasty if it is not recognized and corrected at the same time.

Depending on your facial features, you may benefit from additional procedures to establish overall facial balance. For instance, if you have a receding chin, a chin implant can be placed at the same as your rhinoplasty procedure to create a nicely proportioned profile. Since noses come in all shapes and sizes, you are encouraged to meet with Dr. Mandal to review your options, and discuss realistic expectations.

Rhinoplasty
Recovery & Results

After the rhinoplasty operation is completed, patients return home with the nose covered by a small skin-colored dressing which is removed one week after surgery. Unlike many surgeons, Dr. Mandal does not use packing in the nose for enhanced patient comfort. As a result, most patients experience only minimal postoperative pain. Bruising, if any, typically resolves quickly. Most sutures dissolve by themselves. Typically, at one week, you may resume routine non-exertional activities and be seen in public without people noticing that you have had obvious surgery.

The majority of Dr. Mandal’s rhinoplasty patients are impressed by how attractive and self-confident they feel after this life-changing operation. She uses her surgical expertise and artistic skill to give her patients beautiful results that are balanced, and natural looking.

Liquid Rhinoplasty

Some patients cannot afford the downtime associated with nose surgery and desire a less invasive approach. Liquid rhinoplasty also known as non-surgical rhinoplasty is typically performed with the use of injectable fillers. Results can last 6 months to 5 years or longer, depending on the choice of filler. Bellafill®, the 5-year filler, is the most commonly requested injectable. Temporary fillers are also an option. While non-surgical rhinoplasty cannot make your nose smaller, it’s benefit lies in fine tuning and re-contouring the external nose to give a more attractive appearance. Realistic expectations are important for satisfying results.

Liquid rhinoplasty can correct:

  • Nasal bridge abnormalities such as a ski slope nose or a small nasal hump
  • Asymmetric nasal tips
  • Flattened noses
